My Favorite iPhone & iPod Touch Camera Apps
Since most people use their iPhones now as their main camera I figured I’d post a few suggestions for apps that might improve the quality of your selfies (and other photos) for Tumblr etc.
- KitCam ($0.99) - Currently my favorite camera app. It’s got great shooting features including a low-light mode and even video capture with Instagram style filters. It’s also got plenty of editing features from cropping to white-balance (remove the yellow tint from selfies taken in the bathroom lol), brightness, contrast, and color correction. There are a few additional filter packs that will cost you $1.99 each, but at least 2 are worth it IMO. It also features “non-destructive editing” so you can remove filters and re-edit your photos as much as you want until you export them. You can also post directly to Tumblr in the app.
- VSCOcam (free) - A new free app with a handful of filters built-in but you have to buy additional filter packs to really have fun with it. At launch (June 2013) you can buy all 16 filter packs for $5.99 that would normally cost you $16 total. That said I’ve been very impressed with the quality of the filters so far.
- Camera Awesome (free) - A bit like KitCam in it’s features but you get a lot for free. Buying all the filters will cost you up-to $9.99 so more than KitCam in the long-run. I personally don’t like the free filters as much as the above apps and I haven’t bought any of the additional filters due to the price.
- Camera+ ($0.99 on sale) - An old favorite. It’s got all the shooting and editing basics and some nice filters. Camera+ is one of the first apps to sell additional filters in-app but it will only cost you another $0.99. KitCam has replaced Camera+ for me just because I like the filters and editing features better.
- GifBoom (free) - For shooting and editing animated gifs. You can even apply Instagram style filters and text your gifs.
